The Reflective Professor: How One Professor Stays Curious, Keeps Learning, and Improves His Teaching

Description:

In episode 82 of the Lecture Breakers podcast, Dr. Carlos Goller shares his story about creating a blog to give him a space to reflect on his teaching and keep track of what he has been learning.

I think one thing that continues to impress me the most is how Carlos has stayed curious and open-minded about teaching after all of these years. He is always learning something new and experimenting with new way to improve.

In this episode, Carlos also talks about his frustration with what he calls "throwaway" assignments and how it led him to redesign all of the assignments and assessments in his course to create more authentic and meaningful projects students can be proud of beyond the scope of a course.

And finally, we end our discussion reflecting on how the pandemic and the shift to online learning has led both of us to rethink what “active learning” means and how we can create more engaging learning experiences.
