The Fundamentals of College Teaching mobile course makes it easy for
faculty, instructors, and graduate teaching assistants to learn how to
create effective and engaging learning experiences.
Reach more faculty.
If you lead professional development programs for faculty, graduate student TAs, and postdocs (our future faculty!) then you know how challenging it is to schedule a time that works for everyone to attend.
Maybe you've tried offering the same workshops on different days of the week.
Maybe you've tried offering more online events.
Or maybe you've created a library of on-demand videos and resources that are available anytime.
These are great ways to try to reach more faculty.
But, if overall participation is still low, you're not seeing many new faces, and faculty are still saying they don't have time, then it's time to try something new.

There's a better way!
The Fundamentals of College Teaching mobile course makes it easy for your faculty, instructors, and teaching assistants to learn how to create effective and engaging learning experiences.
Each interactive lesson is grounded in theory, informed by research, and designed for practical application.
Instructors can continue their professional learning while waiting for class to begin, while waiting for a lab experiment to finish, or while waiting in line for coffee.

Short, engaging can be completed in less than 5 minutes anytime, anywhere.
Faculty interact with a variety of activities and lessons that include references to the research, helpful tips, reflection prompts, example teaching strategies, and self-assessment.
After you enroll your group,
it's easy for your participants to get started!

How Can You Use this Mobile Course on Your Campus?

DISCUSSIONS
Facilitate online and on-site conversations with your faculty, instructors, and teaching assistants. Use the discussion prompts in each module to dig deeper into teaching strategies, encourage reflective practice, share tips, and highlight current research about teaching in higher education.

ORIENTATIONS
Use the course as part of your New Faculty Orientation or New Graduate TA Orientation! As new educators, they are already overwhelmed with all the things they have to do (What classroom am I teaching in? How does the LMS work again? How do I log in to access my course roster?) Make it easy for them to learn how to engage students and teach effectively.

PROGRAMMING
Use the 9 modules to outline your programs for the year or add this course to your existing programs. The modules are divided into 37 microlessons that can be completed in just 3-5 minutes. Each lesson is grounded in theory, informed by research, and designed for practical application and reflection.

Offer your faculty something new!
The way we teach students is changing. Shouldn't our professional development programs change too?
Educators are innovative, creative, and resourceful.
They are always looking for new ways to connect with their students and create learning experiences that are engaging, relevant, meaningful.
They are looking for the same experiences when it comes to their professional learning.
If your campus isn't offering these types of innovative and engaging learning experiences for faculty, then they aren't going to see the value of your events, and they will not attend.

So, if you and your team are wondering . . .
How can we reach more faculty?
How can we integrate professional development activities into their busy schedule without overwhelming them?
How can we make it easy (and dare we say fun?!) for them to learn how to create effective and engaging learning experiences?
How can we offer something different and new?
The Fundamentals of College Teaching mobile course is what you're looking for!

Hi, I'm Barbi!
Before I launched my speaking and consulting business back in 2011, I served in every position (from intern to director!) in a teaching center at a large research university.
For the past 22 years, I have been involved in faculty development from every perspective. I know how challenging it is to plan events and create resources to support busy faculty members, especially in teaching.
That's why I created the Fundamentals of College Teaching mobile course! I wanted to find a way to help you reach more faculty and support educators at all levels.
Use this course to support adjunct faculty who are teaching multiple classes across different campuses, give experienced faculty a few tips to refresh their approach to teaching, and help graduate student TAs and postdocs prepare to teach effectively.
And of course, I also want to make it easier for you and your team to provide effective and engaging professional learning experiences!
